Cheetah Piss: Strange Name, Unique Smell, & Energizing Effects

Okay, we’ll admit it: “Cheetah Piss” wouldn’t be our first choice for a strain name, but if you know your cannabis lore, it is a nod to the infamous “Cat Piss” strain craze of the early ‘90s. The name—and the smell—aside, Cheetah Piss is a cultivar to remember. A buzzy hybrid, it’s one you’d want to keep around, especially if you can get past the unusual name.

Strain Origin and Genetics

Cheetah Piss comes courtesy of Gilbert Anthony Milam Jr. (aka “Berner”) and Jai (“Jigga”), the masterminds behind the famous Cookies brand. A three-way cross between Lemonade, Gelato 42, and London Poundcake 97, Cheetah Piss’s memorable name comes from its notably ammonia-like aroma. But if you brave that bracing smell, you’ll detect notes of lemony cake lurking in the background.

Is Cheetah Piss Indica or Sativa?

If you know anything about cannabis and its effects, then you may be familiar with the two main distinctions that fall along the indica and sativa divide. Indica strains (or indica-leaning hybrids) are generally known for imparting heavily relaxing and body-centered effects, while sativas and sativa-leaning hybrids are better known for imparting a burst of focused energy and creative inspiration.

However, while the terms “indica” and “sativa” may no longer be botanically accurate, we still use them here at Mission. Why? It’s simple: They help people better predict the effects that a specific strain will likely impart. Better knowledge leads to better cannabis experiences, and that’s something we want to help you find!

The Cheetah Piss strain is a hybrid that leans more towards its sativa side than its indica, and many people find it imparts a gentle, notably non-anxious boost to their day. So, if you plan to give this strain a shot, expect to be amply rewarded—according to the folks at Cookies, you can expect a “strong, stoney head high” rather than classic sedative sensations. As for the parent strains behind Cheetah Piss weed, here’s how they stack up:

Lemonade

Tasting and smelling to some like “a basket of freshly squeezed lemons,” this bright sativa-dominant hybrid is famous for imparting a burst of zingy, creative energy. On the medicinal side, Lemonade—also sometimes known as “Lemonnade”—is often chosen to put a stop to anxiety, inflammation, and cramping in some consumers.

Gelato 42

The original Gelato was created by crossing Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint GSC, each of them breakout stars of the early 2010s West Coast cannabis scene. Gelato 42, by comparison, is a balanced hybrid known to many for its euphoric high accompanied by strong feelings of relaxation.

London Poundcake 97

Careful with this potent indica-dominant hybrid, or you might be heading into an early bedtime. Rich, nutty, and delicious, this high-strength strain is beloved for dispensing a deep, full-body relaxation sparked with tingly sensations. No wonder it’s a go-to for some grappling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.

How Strong is the Cheetah Piss Strain?

Though we like to point out that different strains of cannabis can contain any number of cannabinoids, most people are only interested in one: THC. No surprise, seeing as it’s the cannabinoid most responsible for the plant’s intoxicating high, but it’s worth getting to know the others as well

How Strong is the Cheetah Piss Strain?

When it comes to the Cheetah Piss strain, you can expect it to express around 18% THC. While not ultra-potent by today’s standards, it can still be a knock-out, depending on your tolerance level and unique body chemistry. Exact THC content varies from crop to crop, so check the packaging for exact potency and terpene content.

Cheetah Piss also contains somewhere in the neighborhood of 1% CBG, a minor cannabinoid that may act as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Plus, recent research suggests it may be a potent, non-intoxicating option against stress—thus adding to the Cheetah Piss strain’s already chill-making effects.

Strain Impressions: Appearance, Flavor, Aroma

Like its namesake—well, at least the “Cheetah” part—this strain is something to behold. With densely packed, bright green leaves and a thick layer of trichomes—the plant’s tiny medicine factories—this is nothing if not a memorable-looking plant. You should also see a good proportion of vibrant orange pistils, the female cannabis plant’s reproductive organs, poking through that silvery forest of trichomes.

As with all strains of cannabis, Cheetah Piss’s terpenes give it its characteristic flavor and aroma. In this case, it’s very characteristic indeed— think ammonia with a bracing backbeat of lemony cake. The most prominent terpenes you’ll find in the Cheetah Piss strain include:

  • Caryophyllene: Often cited as a source of spicy, peppery, and clove-like notes, this terpene is notably calming and relaxing. Caryophyllene is associated with immune-boosting and pain-killing effects
  • Humulene: With its floral, slightly bitter scent, humulene is a main contributor to the aroma of hops, the plant that gives beer its distinctive bite. Beyond this, the terpene has been shown to have powerful antimicrobial effects. Another study even found that humulene may be as powerful an anti-inflammatory as the pharmaceutical steroid dexamethasone.

The Cheetah Piss Strain Experience: What To Expect

What does smoking Cheetah Piss feel like? While that’s not a question we ever expected to ask in quite that way, the most straightforward answer is that it leans hard on the sativa side of its lineage, imparting a strong mental high with a backdrop of relaxing—but not sedating—bodily sensations. If you react well to sativa strains, Cheetah Piss may be the perfect pick for your next session.

Cheetah Piss’s strain effects also make it a great candidate for medical cannabis patients. That heavy euphoria might be just the thing to chase away discomfort and stress while boosting mood, and the relative clear-headedness may keep you on track to stay reasonably focused and productive.

Growing Cheetah Piss: What To Know

While there’s relatively little published data about growing the Cheetah Piss weed strain, sources suggest it’s not the easiest strain to get right and may be best left to more experienced growers. The flowering time is 8 – 9 weeks, which is reasonably brief, but you’ll want to keep a close eye on it to ensure it’s flourishing in your specific grow conditions.

Cheetah Piss prefers warm climates with plenty of sunlight, and it’s a good idea to practice proper pruning and trimming to maximize flower production. Indoor yields are typically in the 0.5 oz / sq-foot zone, while outdoor-grown specimens can produce 5 – 10 oz per plant.
